Kolkata, 27th October, 2025: Restaurateurs, Shiladitya and Debaditya Chaudhury, the dynamic duo behind two of Kolkata’s most loved fine dining experiences - Oudh 1590 & Chapter 2 - unveiled their newest venture, Chaudhury & Company, a Bengali bygone era churning food haven that revives and reimagines the forgotten art of Bengal’s Pice Hotels. With the evocative tagline “Eey Kaler Rannay, Shey Kaler Swad” (Where The Present Palette Meets The Taste Of The Past), C&C is poised to take diners on a nostalgic yet refined journey into the soul of Bengali cuisine. Today, Chaudhury & Company was launched by the Tollywood Icon, Prosenjit Chatterjee, amidst much fanfare.
Over the last few years, the Chaudhury brothers have travelled across Kolkata and Bengal, visiting countless century-old pice hotels - those humble yet soulful eateries that once defined everyday Bengali dining. Their mission was to document, taste and preserve signature dishes, many of which are now vanishing from contemporary food culture. The result is a meticulously curated menu that blends time-honoured recipes with modern sensibilities, ensuring guests can savour both traditional favourites and reinvented delicacies.
“Bengal’s pice hotels are more than eateries; they are cultural institutions that have shaped how we eat, share and remember food. With Chaudhury & Company, we are preserving this heritage for a new generation, balancing authenticity with reinvention. Our vision is to ensure that the lost dishes of Bengal find their place once again at the family table, but in a form that resonates with today’s lifestyles. Also, it is beyond a brick & mortar eatery; it is a labor of love for us. We grew up eating the food our Mother made for us, the food still breathes fresh in our memory”, said Shiladitya & Debaditya Chaudhury, Co-Founders, Chaudhury & Company.
Chef Joymalya Banerjee, celebrated for his innovation with heritage cuisines with 25 years of experience, has helmed the menu curation. Every dish reflects freshness, authenticity and storytelling - served with the same spirit of generosity and community that pice hotels embodied.
At Chaudhury & Company, the menu celebrates the timeless flavours of Bengal through an extraordinary selection of dishes. Guests can begin their journey with refreshing beverages like Daab Sharbat and Tetuler Sharbat, before indulging in tea-time classics such as Mochar Malai Chop, Fowl Cutlet, and the quintessential Mutton Mughlai Paratha. Seafood lovers will relish signatures like Golda Chingrir Chiney Kebab, Chingri Malai Curry, Gondhoraaj Kankra Chingri Bhapa, Daab Chingri, and the ever-celebrated Ilish Bhapa and Ilish Paturi.
For traditionalists, staples like Luchi, Koraishutir Kochuri, and Basanti Pulao evoke comforting nostalgia, while specialties like Boror Shorshe Jhal, Thor Ghonto and Gondhoraj Chhanar Paturi reinvent vegetarian heritage with finesse. Mutton and chicken classics such as Kosha Mangsho, Mutton Dak Bungalow, Shile Bata Murgi, and Railway Murgir Jhol pay homage to Bengal’s culinary legacy. Completing the feast are bhortas (The staple mashed items from Bengal, varying a diverse options ranging from Kancha Kumro (Raw Pumpkin) Bhorta to Ool(Yams) Bhorta, from Loitya (Fried Bombil) Bhora to Ilish Macher Lej Bhorta), chutneys, and timeless desserts like Mishti Doi, Chhanar Payesh, and the unputdownable Rabri. There is also one grand Pice Hotel Thala, a curated platter of Bengal’s culinary heritage that brings together a selection of true Bengali flavours. Any extra item beyond the Thali will be charged as per the menu, just as the old eateries did.
To complement the culinary experience, artist and architect Sanjib Saha of J&S Interiors has designed the sprawling 3,000 sq. ft. area of Chaudhury & Company as a narrative-driven space - a living archive of Bengal’s cultural and social history. Red Oxide Floors, Khorkhori Windows, Vintage Utensils, Kalighat Patachitra, Battala Woodcuts with the imprints from ancient Calcutta collage through a Juggernaut or a royal scene involving the aristrocatic Babu Bibi, and Sepia-Toned Theatre Portraits together create an environment that celebrates Kolkata’s timeless charm. From banana-leaf dining elements to chalkboard-style menus (reinterpreted with modern digital displays), every detail evokes the authenticity of the Pice Hotel, while elevating it into a luxurious dining experience.
Adding to the experience, renowned fashion guru Abhishek Roy, specialising in textile designing has conceptualised and designed the apparel and uniforms for the staff. Widely known as Roy, he always had a proclivity of using natural elements, organic and recycled fabric for his couture and his store Bohurupi Santiniketan too has a reflection of the same. Roy has also lent his creative touch to eminent personalities like Saif Ali Khan, Kapil Dev and M.S Dhoni. In recognition of his outstanding work, he has been awarded with the WBFJA award followed by felicitation by Government of West Bengal in 2023. His creations blend comfort with tradition, ensuring that the service team visually complements the cultural and culinary heritage on offer. He has used mainly Khadi Cottons to design the uniforms of the staffs at C&C.
The restaurant is not merely a place to eat, it is an immersive cultural journey, where each corner tells a story of Bengal’s food, art, theatre, and lifestyle. Preserving the Pice Hotel ethos at its heart, Chaudhury & Company pays homage to the original Pice Hotel philosophy:
• Banana leaf service and à la carte-style pricing, where every item-even the leaf-had a value.
• Fresh, seasonal produce sourced daily from local markets.
• Communal warmth where diners feel at home, their tastes remembered, and their stories heard.
But Chaudhury & Company also acknowledges the needs of today’s Kolkata - nuclear families, working couples and food lovers who crave homestyle flavours but within a refined, comfortable, and memorable setting.
Chaudhury & Company is more than a restaurant; it is an ode to Bengal’s identity where culinary memory meets contemporary design, where art and architecture amplify food stories, and where every meal is a reminder of the heritage that continues to shape modern Kolkata. A meal for two at Chaudhury & Company would cost Rs 1200 + GST. The location is 24C, Deshapriya Park West, Kolkata - 700026, right opposite to Oudh 1590, Deshapriya Park outlet. Timings are from 11:30 in the morning till 10:30 at night. Food can also be ordered via food aggregators and Chaudhury & Company’s in-house delivery fleet.
