Kolkata, 4th April, 2026: As Bengal prepares to welcome the New Year, the digital streaming platform Platform 8 has announced a significant addition to its content library. Their upcoming original series, Ichchepuran, is set to premiere on April 10, 2026, marking the festive occasion of Poila Boishakh with a narrative that promises to be as introspective as it is entertaining.

Directed by the veteran filmmaker Haranath Chakraborty, the series explores the delicate, often volatile, intersection of human desire, destiny, and the moral choices that define a person's character.

A Story of Choice and Consequence

The concept and story of Ichchepuran are helmed by Iman Chakraborty, who sought to explore the "timeless human longing for more."

"The seed of Ichchepuran came from observing how even the simplest human desires can spiral into life-altering consequences," said Iman Chakraborty. "I wanted to explore how far a person can go when faced with the temptation of an easier destiny."

The narrative follows Apurba (played by Debraj Bhattacharya), a modest insurance agent struggling to meet the basic needs of his family. His mundane life is disrupted when he comes into possession of a mysterious stone that appears to bring sudden luck and prosperity. However, this newfound fortune is not a gift; it is a trade-off that forces him into a profound moral dilemma.

Powerhouse Performances and Scripting

The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast:

Debraj Bhattacharya as Apurba

Ishani Sengupta as Aparna

Korak Samanta

Shankar Debnath

Pradip Bhattacharya

The screenplay, penned by the acclaimed Padmanabha Dasgupta, aims to ground the "extraordinary" elements of the plot in human vulnerability. Dasgupta noted that his focus was on making the characters "deeply human-flawed, vulnerable, and relatable," ensuring that each character represents a different human response to conflict.

Director and Cast Perspectives

Director Haranath Chakraborty expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting the transformation of the protagonist. "Apurba is an ordinary man striving to meet daily targets. When a mysterious stone transforms his fortunes at a significant cost, he is forced to confront choices that challenge his core beliefs," he shared.

Lead actor Debraj Bhattacharya described the journey of his character as "layered and emotionally intense," while Ishani Sengupta, who plays Apurba's wife, teased a poignant arc. "She witnesses a painful transformation in the man she loves, which deeply impacts her journey," Sengupta remarked.

A Festive Launch for Platform 8

For Platform 8, the release of Ichchepuran on the eve of the Bengali New Year is a strategic move to offer high-quality, thought-provoking content.

Ms. Priyanka Bardia, Director of Platform 8, stated:

"Ichchepuran reflects the timeless human conflict between desire and consequence. Releasing this series on Poila Boishakh makes it even more special, as it marks a new beginning with a story that questions choices, values, and the true cost of fulfilling one’s wishes."

Blending domestic drama with a touch of the extraordinary, Ichchepuran is poised to be a must-watch this April, challenging viewers to think about what they would sacrifice to have their deepest wishes granted.
