In todays world we often move fast. Sometimes the best way to find peace is to go to basics. Recently the city of Kolkata saw a mix of environmental activism and mental health advocacy. Florence, a health initiative started by filmmaker Shrestha Ganguly celebrated World Forest Day with a wonderful afforestation drive that showed us that nature is the best healer.

The event was held at Offbeat CCU, a lively place. It was not about planting trees it was about giving people hope and making them feel included and mindful.

The success of this initiative was due to partnerships. Florence teamed up with Jhore Jole Jongole, a group that works to preserve the world. By working they sent a strong message: taking care of the earth is important for taking care of ourselves.

Offbeat CCU was the venue for the event. It is a place that cares about the community and the environment.

One of the parts of the drive was the participation of children from Prayas, an organization led by Avirup Sengupta. Avirup Sengupta is a dancer but what really stood out was his love for social causes. By including the children of Prayas in the afforestation drive he made sure that everyone felt included. Watching the children plant trees and interact with nature was a reminder that the earth's for everyone.

For these children planting trees was not a task it was a fun experience that helped them connect with the earth.

Shrestha Ganguly, the founder of Florence has always said that being mindful is important for our wellbeing. During the event she said that we often forget to appreciate the things in life that keep us sane.

Shrestha Ganguly said that taking care of the environment and our health go together. She said that efforts to help the environment can have a big positive impact on our minds.

The drive showed us that being in nature can:

Reduce stress by lowering levels

Help us be mindful by focusing on the present moment

Give us a sense of purpose by watching something we planted grow

The collaboration with Jhore Jole Jongole taught us about living and our responsibility, to the earth.

The enthusiasm of the participants turned an environmental drive into a powerful community movement. It reminded us that we all have a role to play in keeping our planet and our society healthy.

Finally the Florence afforestation drive was an example of what happens when art, environmentalism and social work come together. It was not a celebration of World Forest Day it was a celebration of human kindness and resilience.

As the trees planted by the children of Prayas grow they will remind us of the day Kolkata came together to heal the earth and itself. Through the leadership of Shrestha Ganguly and her partners the message is clear: to save our minds we must save our earth.
